Rebuilt listed thatched cottage
A sensitive replacement dwelling of a 17th-century listed thatched cottage in East Hendred, Oxfordshire, set within a conservation Area and the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. Following significant fire damage, the project carefully reinstates the character and charm of the original cottage while introducing a refined contemporary addition to the rear and a large basement wellness spa. Traditional materials, thatched roofing and exposed timber detailing celebrate the heritage of the building while full-height glazing, dark timber cladding and clean modern lines create bright generous living spaces connected to the garden. The result is a thoughtful balance of conservation and contemporary design, preserving the cottage’s historic presence while creating a comfortable home for modern living.
